ms. Amy blaker
Amy Blaker is a biologist, conservationist and explorer who has discovered her life's work in Science Education. She has lived in many states around the US before moving to North Carolina in 2009. Amy is the proud mother of two adult children with whom she loves to travel and share adventures. Amy's passion for animal science has led to careers assisting veterinarians in both small and large animal clinics, wildlife rescue centers and the San Antonio Zoo, as well as managing a breeding program at a large Warmblood Horse Farm.
Amy's love of science and the Earth ultimately led her to teach Earth Science, Biology and Marine Science at a Public High School near her home in North Carolina. Here, she shares her gift for working with at-risk teens, encourages students to find their passions and creates a supportive space to learn, grow and succeed. |
Education
WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY
Amy completed a Master of Arts in Teaching from WCU in summer 2018, with concentration in Secondary Science-Biology. While in graduate school, she spent two summers at the Highlands Biological Station in the mountains of North Carolina completing coursework in ecology and participating in field research. |
FLORIDA TECH
Amy graduated from the The Florida Institute of Technology in 1995 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Pre-Medicine and Molecular Biology. Since then, she continued her education in both science and education, including course work in Pharmacology & Toxicology, Entomology, as well as topics in Veterinary Medicine. |
